Can you swim and dive underwater in GTA 6?
Yes. Rockstar's Extended Look shows swimming and scuba diving in GTA 6, plus kayaking and jet skis. Detailed rules — oxygen limits, dive equipment, underwater collectibles — have not been published.
Confirmed — Rockstar showed both. The 26-minute Extended Look that premiered on August 27, 2026 includes swimming and scuba diving, shown as part of a run through the leisure side of Jason and Lucia’s life in Leonida rather than as an isolated feature demo. Kayaking, jet skis and fan boats appear in the same stretch.
That closes the question this page has carried since 2023. What remains open is the detail: Rockstar has not published oxygen rules, dive equipment, depth limits, or what is actually worth finding down there.
What the footage establishes
| Activity | Shown |
|---|---|
| Surface swimming | Yes |
| Scuba diving | Yes |
| Kayaking | Yes |
| Jet skis and fan boats | Yes |
| Underwater objectives or collectibles | Not shown |
Scuba specifically implies equipment and some form of air management, since a game that only wanted brief dives would not need a rig. Rockstar has not confirmed how that is handled.
Why it always looked inevitable
Leonida is a coastal state built around Vice City, the Leonida Keys island chain and the Grassrivers wetlands. GTA V already had swimming and diving with an oxygen meter, tanks purchasable at boat dealerships and underwater collectibles across the ocean floor. A shoreline state that dropped those systems would have been the surprise.
The underwater and ocean page tracks the separate question of what the seabed actually contains — wrecks, wildlife, hidden locations — which the reveal did not address.
What is still unknown
No oxygen or stamina numbers, no confirmation of sharks or hostile marine life, no word on underwater collectible sets, and nothing about whether diving connects to mission content or sits purely in free roam.
For everything else the August reveal established, see the Extended Look breakdown and everything confirmed so far.
This page will be updated if Rockstar details the diving systems before launch.
