GTA 6 Goes Off-Screen: A TV Ad, Miami Cars and a $3.9M County Deal
Rockstar's first GTA 6 TV ad aired on NBA opening night, game cars toured Miami, and Miami-Dade put its Rockstar marketing deals at $3.9 million.

Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch campaign has moved off the internet. On October 20 the game’s first television ad aired during NBC’s coverage of the NBA’s opening night. Over the same two weeks, cars styled after the game’s vehicles were filmed driving around Miami, Burger Shot and Cluckin’ Bell stands opened inside the Heat’s arena, and on October 28 Miami-Dade County announced a marketing package with Rockstar that it values at $3.9 million.
Rockstar has posted about none of it on the Newswire. The county deal is on the record in the county’s own press release. Everything else was spotted by viewers and fans and then reported by games outlets. This is backfill: these events ran from mid-October and we did not cover them at the time.
The first TV ad
TheGamer reported the spot on October 21, the morning after it aired on NBC Sports. HotHardware describes it as a 90-second edit of the Launch Trailer that Rockstar posted on October 15. One of the trailer’s shower scenes is gone, and other shots run longer to fill the time, including a longer look at Lucia leaping toward a plane. TheGamer adds that some of the more violent moments were trimmed too. Neither outlet quotes Rockstar on the edit.
The detail that drew the most attention is the end card. According to TheGamer, only the PlayStation logo appears, and Xbox is not mentioned anywhere in the ad, not even in the legal text, and it notes that the launch trailer’s platform card left Xbox off as well. That changes nothing about availability: GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, and Xbox denied having an exclusive cloud-streaming deal last month.
Vice City on Miami’s streets
By mid-October, fans in Miami were filming a convoy of real cars made up as GTA 6 vehicles and fitted with Leonida licence plates. Game Rant compiled the clips on October 16. It lists a McLaren dressed as the Progen Emerus, a Lamborghini Huracán in Vice City Police Department livery, and real-world versions of the Cheetah, Coquette D10, Tempesta and Manana. Rockstar has not said who runs the cars, or whether the convoy was being filmed for anything.
Game Rant’s roundup a week later describes branding across the city: GTA 6 artwork on buses, taxis, beach umbrellas and digital screens, a Vice City blimp, and boats advertising the game’s Vault nightclub. It also spotted adverts for in-game brands such as Weazel News, eCola and Pißwasser. Inside the Kaseya Center, home of the Heat, some food vendors have been rebranded as Burger Shot and Cluckin’ Bell. DualShockers put the combo meals at $28.50 to $31.

Miami-Dade’s $3.9 million package
The county’s release, dated October 28, puts the total at $3.9 million and calls it “nearly $4 million” in its subheadline. It confirms the $975,000 figure for the “Welcome to Vice City” sign on the Kaseya Center roof, which is now counted inside the total. That money goes toward a public park at Dan Paul Plaza, behind the arena. The new items are:
- themed lighting at Miami International Airport and PortMiami
- promotional displays on the walkways between the airport’s parking garages and its terminals
- decorative wraps on selected traffic-signal cabinets across the county
- advertising bought through the media companies that manage ad space at the airport and on county transport
Rockstar pays to install, maintain and remove all of it, and every design still needs county approval under its content guidelines. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the agreements “allow us to turn that excitement into additional revenue for our community.” Neither the release nor WLRN says how long the displays will stay up.
Part of the county’s June pitch, which the sheriff publicly rejected in September, has now come back in a smaller form. The airport and the signal-cabinet wraps are in. The wrapped Metromover cars and the themed baggage claim are mentioned in neither the release nor WLRN’s report. WLRN reports that several commissioners again objected to the agreements going ahead without a full commission vote.
What it changes on VicePulse
Nothing about the game itself, and no rumor changes status. The Kaseya Center report now carries the confirmed $975,000 figure and the wider county package, replacing a line that said no further deals had been agreed.
Taken together, these show where the campaign has gone in its final month. The marketing timeline was once mostly Newswire posts and trailers. Now it is network television, a real city’s airport, and a basketball arena selling fictional fast food. The next fixed date is the Heat’s Vice City night on November 18, the eve of launch. We will update this page if Rockstar says anything about the campaign.
