Is there public transport in GTA 6?

GTA 6 has no confirmed public-transport system. Buses, taxis, trains, or metro lines may appear in Leonida, but Rockstar has not shown that players can ride them or use them for fast travel.

Verdict — Rumored: Public transport may be present in Leonida, but no usable bus, taxi, train, metro, ferry, or scheduled passenger service has been officially announced.

A modern city can display transit vehicles without making them functional for the player. GTA 6 trailers show a busy transportation network, yet environmental traffic and a usable service are different features. Rockstar has not published a transit map or demonstrated a passenger journey.

What we actually know

Leonida includes Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga. Official footage shows travel by road and water, with aircraft also appearing. The geographic variety creates a reason to ask how players move between regions.

Rockstar has not detailed public transport, fast travel, or the final map scale. Trailer edits jump between locations, but those cuts do not represent a mechanic. The map and setting guide covers confirmed regions, while the fast-travel page addresses travel shortcuts specifically.

Series precedent

Earlier Grand Theft Auto games have used transit as both world detail and player transport.

Game Service Player use
GTA: San Andreas Trains and commercial travel Some long-distance passenger options
GTA IV Subway and taxis Rideable transit and destination skipping
GTA V Taxis, rail vehicles and buses in the world Taxis offered the clearest passenger service

This inconsistent history supports possibility, not certainty. Even when vehicles operate in traffic, boarding rules can be limited. A train may be driveable, rideable, mission-only, or simply part of the scenery.

The case for transit

Vice City is a large urban center, while the Leonida Keys and other regions have distinct transport needs. Taxis could serve dense streets; buses could populate tourist corridors; rail could connect urban areas; ferries could fit coastal geography. Each idea is plausible as world design.

Public transport could also double as limited fast travel, preserving the sense of place while reducing repeated long drives. GTA IV’s taxis are the strongest direct precedent. Red Dead Redemption 2’s trains and stagecoaches show Rockstar still values diegetic travel systems—services that exist inside the game world rather than as simple menu teleportation.

Still, no route, station, fare, schedule, or passenger interaction is official. Fan-made transit diagrams should be treated as creative interpretations, not documentation.

What would confirm it

Strong evidence would show the player waiting for, boarding, paying for, riding, or skipping a journey on a service. A labeled official map with stations could confirm infrastructure, though not necessarily interactivity. Authorized previews could clarify whether transit runs continuously and whether wanted levels interrupt it.

We also do not know if Jason and Lucia can hail taxis, whether buses stop, whether trains are enterable, or whether boats connect islands. The lack of an announced activities list keeps all of these open.

Our read

Transit vehicles are a safe expectation for a convincing modern setting, but usable public transport remains rumored. A taxi-like convenience feature has solid series precedent; a full metro or regional network is a larger claim with no official support.
