GTA 6 Map & Setting: Leonida, Region by Region

Updated July 21, 2026

Neon night map of the state of Leonida

GTA 6 doesn’t take place in a city — it takes place in a state. Leonida is Rockstar’s Florida: same latitude, same swagger, none of the real map. Six regions are officially named. Here’s what each one is, what the trailers actually show of it, and its real-Florida echo.

Vice City

The centerpiece. A present-day reimagining of the series’ most iconic city — art-deco beachfront, packed sand, a dense downtown across the water, and a metro area that sprawls in every direction. The Trailer 2 flyover is the clearest look at its scale; the strip after dark and beach culture sequences show its two moods.

Florida echo: Miami and Miami Beach. Seen in: both trailers, extensively.

Leonida Keys

A chain of islands trailing off the state’s southern tip — marinas, motels, stilt houses and a smuggling history that official character bios lean into hard. This is Jason’s world when the story opens, and Brian Heder’s turf (characters guide).

Florida echo: the Florida Keys. Seen in: Trailer 2’s first third.

Grassrivers

The Everglades analog: sawgrass wetlands, airboat channels, gators, and communities that live on the water’s schedule. Both trailers spend real time here — the backwater sequences and the airboat run — signaling playable space, not scenery.

Florida echo: the Everglades. Seen in: both trailers.

Port Gellhorn

A gulf-coast port town with faded-glory energy — boardwalk, industry, motels past their prime and the trouble that fills them. Officially named on Rockstar’s site; barely shown in trailers so far, which makes it the region most likely to surprise.

Florida echo: the Panhandle port towns. Seen in: official site material.

Ambrosia

Inland sugar-belt country — cane fields, processing plants and flat agricultural horizons. Officially named; glimpsed at most. In real Florida, sugar country sits south of the big lake, which is exactly where our speculative map pins it.

Florida echo: the Lake Okeechobee sugar belt. Seen in: official site material.

Mount Kalaga

Wooded highlands and a state park in Leonida’s north — the wilderness counterweight to Vice City, promising the hunting-grounds energy RDR2 players will recognize. Officially named alongside its park.

Florida echo: north-Florida hill country (with creative license on the “Mount”). Seen in: official site material.

What ties it together

Two things stand out across all official material. First, water is everywhere — ocean, keys, swamp, lake, gulf — which implies boats and seaplanes matter more than in any prior GTA. Second, the regions are economically distinct: tourist money in Vice City, smuggling in the Keys, agriculture in Ambrosia, industry in Port Gellhorn. GTA economies are usually set dressing; Leonida’s official framing reads like it wants the geography to mean something.

See it pinned

All six regions sit on our speculative Leonida map with their evidence — and the honest state of the “how big is it?” question lives in the map size rumor.

Frequently asked questions

Where does GTA 6 take place?

In the state of Leonida, Rockstar's fictional take on Florida, set in the present day. Its centerpiece is a modern Vice City, but the playable state includes keys, wetlands, farmland, a gulf-coast port town and northern highlands.

Is GTA 6 set in Vice City?

Yes — Vice City returns as the main city, reimagined in the present day rather than the 1986 of the original. It's one of six officially named regions in the state of Leonida.

How big is the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar hasn't published dimensions. The officially named regions span city, coast, swamp, farmland and highlands, which is why most coverage expects the biggest GTA map yet — but every specific size figure online is community guesswork.

Can you go inside buildings in GTA 6?

Unconfirmed in specifics. Trailer footage shows detailed interiors (clubs, stores, homes), but Rockstar hasn't described how many are enterable in free play.
