Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
No PC version is announced. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. GamesBeat reported in October 2026, citing four anonymous sources, that PC is planned for Q1 2027. Rockstar has not commented.
Rumored — not announced. Every official platform mention since the 2023 reveal lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and nothing else. Rockstar has said nothing about PC. The strongest claim so far is an October 2026 GamesBeat report that a PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027. That report rests on anonymous sources and Rockstar has not confirmed it, so the status stays rumored.
The pattern
Rockstar has shipped PC late, deliberately, for fifteen years:
| Game | Console launch | PC launch | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | Apr 2008 | Dec 2008 | ~8 months |
| GTA V | Sep 2013 | Apr 2015 | ~19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | Oct 2018 | Nov 2019 | ~12.5 months |
The strategy is transparent: sell the console copy at launch, then sell the PC copy — often to the same people — when the hype cycle needs fuel. GTA V did this so well it became one of the best-selling PC games ever two years after its console debut.
What it would mean for GTA 6
Mechanically applying the pattern puts a GTA 6 PC release somewhere between late 2027 and 2028. The wildcard cuts both ways: PC gaming is a far bigger market than in 2013 (which argues for a shorter gap), but a GTA Online successor’s console launch window is commercially sacred (which argues Rockstar won’t rush anything that distracts from it).
Worth noting what this rumor is not: nobody credible claims PC is skipped entirely. Rockstar ports its flagships eventually, every time, and current-gen console architecture makes the port cheaper than it’s ever been.
What Take-Two has said
The closest thing to an official hint came at Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting on September 17, 2026. Asked about PC, CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company’s strategy is, over time, to launch on platforms with a meaningful audience, and added: “the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time.” He named no game and no date, so it is not an announcement — but it is also plainly not a rule-out. The meeting recap has the full context.
The GamesBeat report: Q1 2027
On October 13, 2026, GamesBeat reported that Rockstar “plans to release the PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI within the first three months of 2027.” Reporter Alexander Lee cited four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans, all speaking anonymously. The report also says the PC version must pass the same quality bar as the console release before it ships. Rockstar did not respond to a request for comment.
It is the first report to put a window on a PC version rather than reasoning from precedent, and it would be a far shorter gap than any recent Rockstar port. A Q1 2027 date would land between about six weeks and four and a half months after the November 19 console launch, against about 12.5 months for RDR2 and about 19 for GTA V.
It is still one outlet. The wider coverage since has repeated GamesBeat’s reporting rather than adding independent sources, and this site’s bar for moving a claim to likely is corroboration from outlets under separate ownership. The report gives no date within the quarter, no storefronts, no price and no system requirements. Those stay open on the PC system requirements page.
Cloud streaming is not a back door
For about a day in October 2026 it looked as if PC players might get GTA 6 at launch through Xbox Cloud Gaming, after a report that Xbox had secured streaming rights. Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball ended that on October 7, saying the game “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.” That rules out the workaround; it says nothing either way about a native port. The full story covers what the statement does and does not settle.
What would confirm it
A Rockstar Newswire post — that’s it. PC announcements for GTA V and RDR2 both came as short official posts with a date, a few months before release. Until that post exists, any “GTA 6 PC release date” headline is either repeating the GamesBeat report or guessing.
Our read: near-certain eventually. Precedent pointed to 2027–2028, and the one sourced report points to the early end of that, Q1 2027. Anything more precise than a quarter is guessing. If you’re deciding what to do about launch day, the platforms guide walks through the actual choice. This page flips to confirmed the moment Rockstar posts.
