Will GTA 6 have new game plus?
Rockstar has not announced a new game plus mode for GTA 6. Players should not assume story progress, equipment, or upgrades will carry into a second playthrough.
Rumored — no new game plus mode has been announced. Rockstar has revealed Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, the Leonida setting, and a November 19, 2026 release on PS5, including PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. It has not said that finishing the campaign unlocks a mode carrying progress into a fresh run.
What new game plus would need to define
“New game plus” usually means starting the story again while retaining some abilities, equipment, currency, collectibles, or upgrades. The exact rules matter. A game may preserve character progression but reset mission items, or raise difficulty while allowing a nearly complete loadout.
Rockstar has announced none of those systems for GTA 6. It has not detailed a post-campaign replay structure, selectable difficulty rules, or rewards for completing the story. Even if individual missions can be replayed, that would not automatically be new game plus. Mission replay normally revisits a specific chapter, while new game plus restarts the full narrative with persistent progress.
The story guide covers what is actually known about Lucia, Jason, and the conspiracy that follows their failed pursuit of easy money.
Rockstar precedent does not settle it
GTA V offered mission replay and allowed players to continue exploring after the campaign, but it did not use a conventional new game plus structure. Red Dead Redemption 2 similarly emphasized a continuing save, mission replay, and completion goals rather than a formal carry-over campaign.
| Feature | GTA V | Red Dead Redemption 2 | GTA 6 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mission replay | Available | Available | Not announced |
| Post-story free roam | Available | Available | Not announced |
| Formal new game plus | No | No | Not announced |
That history makes a GTA 6 new game plus mode uncertain, not impossible. Rockstar could change its approach, especially if the new campaign contains progression systems suited to repeat play. Until Rockstar describes those systems, precedent is only context.
What players should expect at launch
Buyers should evaluate GTA 6 as a single campaign without assuming that weapons, vehicles, money, or character upgrades can transfer to another run. The Ultimate Edition’s premium vehicles, apparel, personalized weapons, and two exclusive Vehicle Mod Shops do not constitute confirmation of new game plus. Edition bonuses describe included content, not how completed saves behave.
Likewise, a future update could add replay options, but Rockstar has announced no post-launch roadmap or day-one patch. Claims about completion rewards should be treated as speculation unless they appear on Rockstar’s site, Newswire, console store materials, or in the released game.

What would confirm the mode
Clear confirmation would be an official feature list or gameplay explanation using “new game plus” and stating what carries over. A trophy or achievement suggesting a second run would be a clue, but it would not define the rules by itself. Reviews based on the retail version could also establish whether the option exists at launch.
Until then, the honest answer remains that new game plus is unannounced. This page will be updated when official information about GTA 6 replay modes lands.
