Can you upgrade from Standard to Ultimate Edition?

Rockstar has not announced a paid upgrade from GTA 6 Standard to Ultimate Edition. Do not assume the $20 edition difference can be paid later or that bonuses will be sold separately.

Rumored — no Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade path is announced. Rockstar lists GTA 6 Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99, but it has not said Standard owners can pay the $20 difference later. It has also not announced a standalone Ultimate content bundle.

What the editions include

Both editions concern the November 19, 2026 release on PS5, including PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. Ultimate adds premium vehicles, apparel, personalized weapons, and two exclusive Vehicle Mod Shops. Copies bought through November 20, 2026 receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.

Question Official answer
Standard price $79.99
Ultimate price $99.99
Can Standard be upgraded later? Not announced
Can Ultimate bonuses be bought separately? Not announced
Does Ultimate include a season pass? No season pass announced

The $20 price gap is not automatically an upgrade price. Platform stores can treat editions as separate products, and any later add-on could use different pricing or eligibility. Rockstar must explicitly offer an upgrade before buyers can rely on one.

The edition and preorder guide has the full announced comparison.

Preorder changes are a separate issue

Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026. A player who has not yet been charged or whose store permits cancellations may be able to cancel one preorder and place another, but that is not the same as upgrading an owned copy. Policies vary by platform, retailer, payment status, and region.

Players should consult the seller’s current terms before attempting a change. Rockstar has not announced a universal conversion process. Physical reservations may follow retailer policies, while digital orders follow PlayStation or Microsoft rules.

The Vintage Vice City Pack’s purchase window runs through November 20, 2026, but that offer does not establish edition conversion rights. Its eligibility should be checked against the exact replacement order if a preorder is changed.

Do not assume bonuses will be sold later

Publishers sometimes release deluxe-edition content as a separate upgrade, but past industry practice is not a GTA 6 promise. Rockstar has not said whether the premium vehicles, apparel, personalized weapons, or Vehicle Mod Shops will ever be individually available.

It is also unclear how those bonuses function within the story because Rockstar has not published detailed mechanics. Their value should be judged from the official descriptions, without assuming they create an online business, include future DLC, or unlock a season pass. No GTA 6 online mode or post-launch roadmap has been announced.

The season pass page explains why Ultimate should not be read as automatic access to later content.

The safest purchase decision

Buy Standard if the base game is what you want and the listed extras do not justify $20 to you. Buy Ultimate only if its currently announced bonuses justify the full $99.99 price. Waiting is also reasonable if a later upgrade option would affect your choice.

Reliable confirmation would be an official Rockstar listing or platform-store add-on that names the upgrade, price, eligibility, and included items. Customer-support statements should identify the region and storefront because policies may differ. The confirmed roundup will track any formal change.
