Will GTA 6 have a first-person mode?
A first-person mode is likely, but Rockstar has not confirmed it. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both support first-person play, so there is strong series precedent.
Likely — but not officially confirmed. Rockstar has not announced a first-person camera for GTA 6, and neither official trailer establishes that the game can be played from that viewpoint. The best evidence is Rockstar’s recent design history: expanded versions of GTA V added a complete first-person option, and Red Dead Redemption 2 included one from launch.
That makes first-person a sensible prediction, not a feature anyone should treat as promised. Camera modes affect animation, interface design, vehicle interiors, weapon handling, and performance, so confirmation needs to come from Rockstar or unambiguous official gameplay.
What Rockstar has actually shown
Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 use cinematic presentation rather than a conventional gameplay demonstration. Some shots may resemble player-controlled perspectives, but editing and camera placement are not proof of a selectable first-person mode. Rockstar’s official GTA 6 material confirms Leonida, Jason Duval, Lucia Caminos, and the November 19, 2026 console release. It does not list camera options.
There is also no published settings menu, control guide, or hands-on preview explaining viewpoint choices. Until one of those appears, the honest answer remains that first-person is unconfirmed.
Why a first-person mode is likely
GTA V is the strongest precedent. Its first-person implementation was much more than moving the camera forward: it included first-person driving views, weapon animations, locomotion settings, field-of-view options, and unique interior details. Rockstar then carried first-person play into Red Dead Redemption 2, where players could travel, fight, explore, and interact from that perspective.
| Rockstar game | First-person support | What the precedent means |
|---|---|---|
| GTA V | Added in later releases | Rockstar invested in adapting GTA systems to first person |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | Available at launch | The feature continued into Rockstar’s next major open-world game |
| GTA 6 | Not announced | History supports the prediction, but does not confirm it |
Those two games suggest that Rockstar now considers viewpoint flexibility useful. GTA 6 is launching only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which also removes the need to accommodate the older console generation. Still, hardware capability alone says nothing about which modes Rockstar chose to ship.
What first person would need to cover
In a GTA game, first person cannot be judged only by shooting. It needs to work while walking, driving cars, riding other vehicles, swimming, using interiors, and switching between Jason and Lucia. It also needs readable animations and controls at close range. Players may reasonably expect adjustable sensitivity, aiming behavior, camera motion, and field of view, but none of those options has been detailed.
There is a related performance question. A first-person camera does not automatically imply a particular frame rate or visual mode. Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 frame rates, so camera expectations should remain separate from the 60fps performance-mode rumor.
What would confirm it
A settings screen listing first-person controls would be decisive. So would official uninterrupted gameplay showing the player freely moving between third- and first-person views. A Rockstar Newswire feature or platform-store description could also confirm it in plain language.
Until then, our read is “likely” because two consecutive Rockstar blockbusters support the feature. That is stronger than a generic rumor, but weaker than an announcement. For the current confirmed feature list, see everything confirmed so far.
This page will be updated when Rockstar publishes official information about GTA 6 camera modes.
