The GTA 6 Pre-Order Bonus Nobody Mentions Auto-Renews
Ask most people what a Grand Theft Auto VI pre-order gets you and they will name the Vintage Vice City Pack. That is half the answer. The Xbox store listing spells out both halves: “Purchase prior to November 20 to receive: -The Vintage Vice City Pack -One Month of GTA+.”
The second item is a subscription, and claiming it enrols your account in a recurring one. PlayStation’s offer terms are unambiguous about what happens next: “The on-screen instructions will make it clear on what date your one Month of GTA+ will continue into a paid monthly subscription.” GTA+ is listed at $7.99 per month.
The terms, platform by platform
The offer is not identical on the two consoles, and the difference is in the deadline — which is the part most likely to cost someone either a bonus or a billing cycle.

Two further restrictions are worth knowing before you count on the bonus. PlayStation excludes a list of country stores outright — Bahrain, China, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, the Russian Federation and Taiwan. And on Xbox, child accounts with age restrictions enabled cannot redeem it at all, since GTA+ carries its own age requirement on top of the game’s.
The “stack free months” trick does not work
A claim spread through late July that you could cancel a pre-order, place it again, and collect another free month each time. PlayStation’s terms answer it in one sentence: “The GTA+ subscription offer can only be claimed once-per-account, regardless of additional purchases.”
That is about as direct a first-party contradiction as a viral tip ever gets. The misunderstanding is easy to see — people assumed the free month attaches to the transaction, when it actually attaches to the account, and an account that has already claimed it cannot claim it again no matter how many times the order is redone.
Existing GTA+ subscribers get better news than they might expect. They are eligible, and the month stacks onto a membership already running, rather than being forfeited for having subscribed early.
What GTA+ actually is — and is not
This matters more than the billing mechanics, because the name invites a misread. GTA+ is a membership for Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer mode attached to Grand Theft Auto V. It grants GTA$500,000 a month into a Maze Bank account, Vinewood Club perks, vehicle discounts, member-only Shark Cards with bonus GTA$, and a rotating library of older Rockstar titles.
None of that is Grand Theft Auto VI content. Rockstar’s own store FAQ describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience, and no online successor has been announced — the future of GTA Online report covers where that question stands. A free month of GTA+ claimed in August 2026 is a month of the old game’s multiplayer, spent three months before the new game exists.
So the honest framing is that this is a cross-sell dressed as a pre-order bonus, and a perfectly ordinary one. It only becomes a problem if it renews unnoticed.
If you do not want it
Cancelling is straightforward, and cancelling immediately does not cost you the free month — the membership runs its full term either way.
- PlayStation: Settings → Users and Accounts → Payment and Subscriptions → Subscriptions, then turn off auto-renew for GTA+.
- Xbox console: Xbox button → Profile & System → Settings → Account → Subscriptions → GTA+ → cancel or disable recurring billing.
- Xbox on the web: the Microsoft account subscriptions page → Manage → Cancel Subscription.
The simplest approach for anyone who has no interest in GTA Online is to leave the offer unclaimed. Nothing is charged unless it is redeemed, and both deadlines sit comfortably after launch — a PlayStation buyer has until the end of March 2027 to decide, well past the point where the appeal of a GTA V subscription will be clear one way or the other.
