Sony Reveals Two GTA 6 DualSense Controllers at $84.99

Sony used its September 3 State of Play to reveal two limited-edition DualSense wireless controllers built around Grand Theft Auto VI. Both ship on November 19, 2026 — the same day as the game — at $84.99 in the US, £74.99 in the UK, €84.99 in Europe and ¥12,480 in Japan. Pre-orders open on September 10 at 10:00am local time, which is 7:00am Pacific and 10:00am Eastern for US buyers.

The announcement came from Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of global marketing, in a PlayStation.Blog post co-credited to Rockstar. It is the first official GTA 6 hardware of any kind, and — notably — it was the game’s only appearance at the showcase.

What the two editions are

There are two, and they are not the same product in two colours. Availability differs, which matters more than the finish does if you intend to buy one.

Sony describes the white controller as Vice City at daybreak and the black one as its nightlife. Both carry what the post calls “a shimmering, color-shifting finish that brings together the hues of a Vice City sunset and the glow of neon lights,” with palm-tree detail moulded into the shells and official GTA VI branding.

The practical takeaway is the black edition’s narrower route to market. Outside the ten countries with a PlayStation Direct storefront, Sony says it will reach “select retailers” — wording that stops short of a commitment. If you want the black one and you are not in one of those markets, September 10 is the date that decides it.

A controller is not a feature list

Worth separating two things that will get conflated. Sony announcing branded hardware says nothing about how GTA 6 uses the DualSense. Rockstar still has not described haptic feedback, adaptive-trigger behaviour, controller-speaker audio or motion input for the game, and a themed shell is a cosmetic product rather than a technical statement. Our DualSense features page stays where it was for exactly that reason — the announcement changes the merchandise picture, not the specification.

That distinction has practical weight. A player buying an $84.99 controller on the assumption that it unlocks something in-game would be buying on a premise nobody has stated.

Where this sits in the marketing run

Rockstar’s pre-launch cadence has been unusually sparse, and this fits the pattern rather than breaking it. GTA 6 appeared at a Sony showcase without new footage, a new date, or a trailer — the beat was an accessory. Coming nine days after the Extended Look landed on Netflix, it reads as Sony filling a slot Rockstar did not need to fill itself.

It also puts a second pre-order moment on the calendar. Game pre-orders opened in June, where the Ultimate Edition led the mix; this is a separate transaction on a separate date, through a storefront rather than a game retailer. Anyone planning a launch-day setup now has two windows to track, and the controller one comes first.

What it does not tell us

Nothing here touches the questions people actually want answered. There is still no resolution figure, no graphics-mode list, and no movement on the frame-rate position Rockstar set out in August, where the game runs at 30fps on console with no committed 60fps mode. Hardware announcements are marketing beats, and they arrive on a marketing schedule that has never tracked the technical disclosures.

Nor does it say anything about stock. Limited-edition Sony controllers tied to a launch of this scale have historically sold through their first allocation quickly, but Sony has published no quantities, and “limited edition” is a branding term here rather than a stated production cap. Treat scarcity claims that appear over the next few days as guesses unless Sony puts a number to them.

For the running list of what Rockstar itself has actually stated, see everything confirmed so far. For what to have ready before November 19, the launch week guide covers the rest of the setup.

This page will be updated if Sony details stock, adds regions, or announces further GTA 6 hardware.
