Vice City in GTA 6: Everything We Know

Neon night map of the state of Leonida

Vice City is GTA 6’s main urban center: a present-day coastal metropolis within the fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar has shown its beaches, nightlife, skyline and street life, but has not published district boundaries, map dimensions or an interiors count.

What is officially confirmed

Vice City returns as the centerpiece of Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional take on Florida. It is one of six officially named regions, joined by the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. That statewide framing is important: the city is a major destination, not the name of the entire GTA 6 map.

The game is set in the present day. Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval are drawn into a conspiracy after an attempt at easy money goes wrong, and their story takes them across Leonida. Vice City is also connected to supporting characters including businessman Boobie Ike, music mogul Dre’Quan Priest and rap duo Real Dimez.

The official footage establishes several visible parts of city life:

Those images can be checked directly in Trailer 1 and Trailer 2. They demonstrate variety, but they do not reveal a complete street plan.

Beachfront, downtown and the visible city

The beachfront is the most immediately recognizable part of Vice City. Broad sand, lifeguard towers, palms, hotels and an art-deco strip create a clear Miami Beach parallel. Crowds are central to the scene: people exercise, pose, socialize and move between the beach and road. It looks designed as an active public space rather than an empty border at the edge of the map.

Across the water, a modern skyline suggests a denser downtown or financial core. Other shots show rooftops, clubs, lower-rise commercial streets and residential areas. It is reasonable to describe these as different urban environments, but not to assign unofficial district names to them. Rockstar has not released a labeled Vice City district map.

Visible environment What the trailers establish What remains unknown
Beachfront Busy sand, palms, lifeguard towers and coastal roads Exact length and playable boundaries
Art-deco strip Colorful low-rise architecture and nightlife Official neighborhood name and venue access
Downtown skyline High-rise concentration across the water Building functions and vertical access
Rooftops and clubs Parties and an active entertainment scene Which locations are freely enterable
Wider metro area Roads, homes and commercial spaces beyond the beach Full extent of suburban districts

The Miami inspiration

Vice City has always translated South Florida into GTA’s fictional geography. In GTA 6, the clearest reference points are contemporary Miami and Miami Beach: barrier-island development, art-deco facades, marina culture, high-rise construction and nightlife shaped by warm weather and tourism.

It is an inspiration rather than a one-to-one recreation. Leonida has its own place names, people and compressed geography. A real Miami landmark can help explain the visual language, but it does not prove that an equivalent location will be present or usable. The safe conclusion is that Rockstar is building a satirical fictional city from recognizable South Florida elements.

Water appears especially important. Beaches, bays, causeways and boats visually connect the city to the rest of Leonida. The nearby Keys and Grassrivers broaden that water-based identity beyond the urban coast. See the Leonida overview for how all six named regions fit together.

How it differs from 1986 Vice City

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City launched in 2002 and placed Tommy Vercetti in Vice City in 1986. GTA 6 is not simply that map with newer graphics. It revisits the same fictional city name in a present-day state with new protagonists and a much broader regional context.

Feature GTA: Vice City (2002) GTA 6
Time period 1986 Present day
Lead Tommy Vercetti Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval
Wider setting Vice City State of Leonida
Social backdrop 1980s culture Contemporary culture and social media
Map details Established by the released game Dimensions and district list unpublished

The 1986 setting defined the older game’s music, fashion, vehicles and crime-story atmosphere. GTA 6’s footage instead emphasizes smartphones, viral videos and contemporary celebrity culture. The art-deco coastline remains a visual bridge, while the era and state-scale setting make the new interpretation distinct. For the longer series context, see every GTA game in order.

What the trailers imply, carefully

The footage implies a city built from sharp contrasts: tourists beside criminals, expensive towers beside ordinary neighborhoods, and carefully marketed nightlife beside chaotic street incidents. In-world social posts let Rockstar present short snapshots from across the population, making the city feel observed from many perspectives.

That editing style is evidence of tone, not a gameplay specification. It does not confirm a social-media mechanic, a particular number of random events, or that every crowd shown will behave identically in normal play. Likewise, footage of an interior confirms that Rockstar created that scene, not that the building is permanently open to the player.

Police pursuits and vehicle scenes confirm the familiar urban crime setting. Rockstar has not detailed wanted-system changes, traffic simulation or mission structure. Those subjects remain open even when a trailer image looks suggestive.

Vice City within Leonida

The city will not operate in isolation. Lucia and Jason’s story crosses the state, while character profiles connect the leads to different communities. Jason begins in the Leonida Keys, whereas several supporting figures are rooted in Vice City’s business and music worlds.

That creates a confirmed narrative link between island life and the metropolis. Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga add port, agricultural, wetland and highland settings elsewhere. What Rockstar has not explained is how travel unlocks, whether regions are open immediately, or where individual missions occur.

The interactive map hub can help organize the named regions, provided any unconfirmed placement is treated as an estimate rather than official geography.

What remains unknown

Several popular questions still have no official answer:

Rockstar also has not announced GTA 6’s mission structure, story length or online mode. Specific claims about any of those features should not be treated as established. The same caution applies to size comparisons: Rockstar has not published GTA 6 map measurements. The map-size tracker separates that open question from confirmed geography.

What is certain is already substantial. Vice City is a modern coastal hub with a recognizable art-deco beachfront, a high-rise core and an active nightlife culture, set inside a varied fictional state. Its exact playable shape will only become clear when Rockstar provides more detail or the game releases on November 19, 2026.
