How will GTA 6 run on Xbox Series S?
GTA 6 is confirmed for Xbox Series S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar says the current console build runs at 30fps, but has announced no Series S resolution, graphics modes, ray tracing or storage requirement.
Verdict: Confirmed. GTA 6 will release on Xbox Series S on November 19, 2026. What remains largely unknown is how that version will run. Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson told press in August 2026 that the current console build runs at 30fps, with reports placing that baseline across the announced consoles — but no Series S resolution, graphics-mode list, ray-tracing specification or file size has been published.
What the platform announcement guarantees
Rockstar lists Xbox Series X|S, which includes both Series X and Series S. Series S is therefore not a rumored port, and claims that Rockstar has dropped it contradict the confirmed platform information.
The announcement guarantees a version for the console; it does not promise technical parity with Series X or PS5. Different hardware can use different settings while delivering the same game. Until Rockstar provides a comparison, no exact compromise or target should be stated as fact.
Our GTA 6 platforms guide covers the full list. PS5 and PS5 Pro are also confirmed, while PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo systems, and PC are not announced launch platforms.
Every important performance detail is open
The Series S question often attracts precise predictions, but Rockstar has not supplied the measurements needed to support them.
| Technical detail | Xbox Series S status |
|---|---|
| Resolution | Not announced |
| Frame rate | 30fps in the current build, per Rockstar; no Series S target published |
| Graphics modes | Not announced |
| Ray tracing | Not announced |
| Download or installed size | Not announced |
Series S could use adjusted resolution, effects, density, image reconstruction, or other settings, but naming any particular adjustment would be speculation. Trailer footage also cannot serve as a Series S benchmark unless Rockstar identifies the capture platform and conditions.
The ray tracing page explains why visual analysis does not confirm a specific effect. Storage is a separate unknown tracked on the file size page.
What Rockstar history can tell us
Rockstar’s large open-world console games have historically launched at 30fps. GTA V gained 60fps only in its later PS5 and Xbox Series re-release. That record makes caution sensible, but it cannot establish GTA 6’s Series S target.
| Release context | Console frame-rate history |
|---|---|
| GTA V original launch | Historically shipped at 30fps |
| GTA V PS5/Series re-release | Added 60fps options |
| GTA 6 on Series S | 30fps current build; no Series S-specific target |
Engine changes, game complexity, and newer hardware mean previous releases are context rather than a specification sheet. The same is true of comparisons with unrelated current-generation games.
What would answer “how will it run?”
Rockstar could publish a platform breakdown describing frame-rate and resolution targets, available modes, and feature differences. Official Xbox store metadata may later provide some details, while post-release technical testing can measure actual behavior across scenes.
Players should distinguish targets from guarantees. A stated target describes the intended output; independent testing after launch can show consistency. Neither exists yet for Series S.
For now, Series S owners have a firm answer to the compatibility question: the game is coming to their console. They do not yet have an official answer about image quality or performance, and no unsupported number should be substituted for one.
This page will be updated when Rockstar publishes official information.
