What happens when your car is destroyed in GTA 6?

Rockstar has not explained what happens when an owned car is wrecked, abandoned, impounded, or lost in water. No insurance service, recovery fee, permanent-loss rule, or replacement process has been announced. GTA Online offers a useful comparison, but GTA 6 may use different systems in story mode and any future multiplayer product.
What we actually know
Official edition details confirm premium vehicles in the Ultimate Edition, two exclusive Vehicle Mod Shops, and a 1955 Vapid Stanier with a garage in the time-limited Vintage Vice City Pack. These bonuses make the persistence question important: buyers reasonably want to know whether a special vehicle can be lost.
However, selling or granting a vehicle does not by itself reveal its recovery rules. Rockstar could automatically restore bonus vehicles, allow replacements at a garage, charge an in-game fee, reload a prior state, or use different rules depending on the mode. None is confirmed.

Series precedent
GTA V story mode and GTA Online do not treat every vehicle identically. GTA Online’s owned-vehicle systems use insurance-style recovery and impound mechanics, helping preserve expensive purchases. Story play has historically been less uniform, and ordinary stolen vehicles are not necessarily equivalent to specially owned transport.
Red Dead Redemption 2 also distinguishes a bonded owned horse from temporary mounts. Across Rockstar games, the key pattern is that ownership status matters. The exact GTA 6 categories and protections are still unknown.

What a fair system could do
Because editions include vehicles, a practical design would give players a dependable way to reclaim paid or awarded content. That might be automatic garage replacement, a catalogue claim, or an insurance-like service. This is a design expectation, not a promise about Rockstar’s implementation.
Any online service could also use rules different from the single-player game. Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 Online, so GTA Online’s insurance interface cannot be carried over as a confirmed feature.
What would confirm it
An official FAQ should explain ownership, replacement costs, cooldowns, impounds, and protections for edition bonuses. Gameplay previews may clarify how ordinary saved cars differ from premium or reward vehicles. The most useful wording would distinguish story-mode persistence from online recovery.

Edition bonuses deserve especially clear terms. A player should not have to guess whether deleting a save, starting a new story, changing consoles, or destroying a reward vehicle affects access. Rockstar’s eventual documentation may distinguish an account entitlement from one vehicle already placed in a save. Until it does, neither unlimited replacement nor one-time delivery should be assumed.
