Can you remap controls in GTA 6?
Rockstar has not announced whether GTA 6 offers full controller remapping. PS5 and Xbox system-level remapping may help, but it may not change prompts or provide separate layouts by activity.
Rumored — game-level controller remapping is not confirmed. Rockstar has not shown GTA 6’s controls menu or accessibility settings. The game launches November 19, 2026 for PS5, including PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S, but availability on those consoles does not guarantee that every command can be reassigned inside the game.
Full remapping is more than presets
A game can offer several preset layouts without allowing individual button changes. Full remapping normally lets the player select a command and assign a different button, while handling conflicts and updating on-screen prompts.
| Control option | What it provides | GTA 6 status |
|---|---|---|
| Preset layouts | A few developer-made schemes | Not announced |
| Full remapping | Individual command reassignment | Not announced |
| Hold or toggle choices | Changes repeated or sustained input | Not announced |
| Sensitivity and dead zones | Adjusts stick response | Not announced |
| Activity-specific layouts | Separate driving, walking, and flying controls | Not announced |
This distinction matters in GTA because movement, aiming, driving, aircraft, menus, and other activities can use the same buttons differently. A single global swap may solve one problem while creating another.
System remapping is a partial fallback
Both PlayStation and Xbox provide accessibility settings that can alter controller assignments at the system level. Those tools may be useful if GTA 6 lacks a particular in-game option, but they operate outside the game. Button prompts may continue showing the original labels, and a global change may apply across gameplay contexts.
System tools therefore should not be described as proof of native support. An in-game solution can understand command conflicts, display the correct prompts, save a title-specific layout, and potentially separate on-foot controls from vehicles.
The platform guide lists the confirmed consoles. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, so keyboard and mouse remapping is not part of the confirmed release.
Rockstar precedent is encouraging but limited
Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped with extensive accessibility options and audio settings on console. Rockstar’s recent games also offered multiple control adjustments and presets. However, a previous game’s menu cannot be copied forward as a GTA 6 feature list.
GTA 6 may have different actions, context-sensitive commands, and controller features. Even support for DualSense functions would not establish remapping; feedback features and input customization are separate questions. The retail settings menu or explicit Rockstar documentation is needed.
What players should look for
Before purchase, players who need remapping should seek screenshots or video of the final controls menu, not a general accessibility claim. Important questions include whether every action is assignable, whether duplicate inputs are allowed, whether prompts update, and whether settings can be saved in multiple profiles.
Hold-versus-toggle options, rapid-input alternatives, aim assistance, stick inversion, dead-zone controls, and camera sensitivity can be just as important as button placement. None is currently confirmed for GTA 6. The guides hub will cover verified settings, while the news hub will track Rockstar announcements.
Until those details appear, players should not assume that console-level swapping will meet every access need.
This page will be updated when official information about GTA 6 controller customization lands.
